Patriots march over Concord Bridge and Revolution begins
On April 19, 1775, minutemen engaged British regulars at the bridge on the opening day of The American Revolution. The event would later be immortalized in Ralph Waldo Emerson's poem, "The Concord Hymn". The poem includes the famous phrase "here once the embattled farmer stood and fired the shot heard 'round the world".
