Summer 2026 - Celebrate America's 250th Birthday
TUESDAY-SATURDAY, JUNE 2 – AUGUST 1
This summer, celebrate America’s 250th Birthday by learning about America’s founding. American Village has partnered with America 250 Alabama to present stories of our Nation’s founding era, with special programming surrounding the Declaration of Independence.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays:
The program is a little lighter, with colonial games and a Continental Army encampment for young patriots to experience.
Here is a sample of what you can experience on Tuesdays and Thursdays:
The Independence Hall Experience
Have you ever wondered what led to the American Revolution? How did we go from being proud British subjects to forming our own American identity? Meet your guide, and learn in a multi-media experience how those seeds were sown and how they eventually grew into a new, independent nation. (Wrist band from Visitor’s Center required for entry to each time slot)
Colonial Spy Techniques
There were many ways that American patriots fought against tyranny during the Revolutionary War. Enter the intriguing world of espionage!
A More Dangerous Enemy
Soldiers in the Continental Army had forces working against them that were even more frightening than the redcoats. Army Surgeon, Benjamin Rush will explain the “cutting edge” medical practices of the day.
Keeping the Home Fires Burning
Young patriots can pretend to harvest and plant in a Colonial garden, play games, and work in a Colonial household.
Colonial American Justice
Hear how trials were conducted during the 18th Century, and find out what awaited those who received a verdict of “guilty.”
Play Colonial Games on the Green
Have you ever tried to roll a hoop? Do you think you can hit the trap ball? The Colonial game players are ready to teach you!
Lucy Knox: A Soldier’s Wife
Hear the tale of this fiery patriot who left her loyalist family behind, in pursuit of love, patriotism, and freedom for her countrymen.
Ongoing Throughout the Day:
Tour the National Veterans Shrine
Visit the Oval Office
Explore the Randall Museum
Visit Merchants’ Coffee House between 8:30am-3:00pm
On Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays:
The Independence Hall Experience is a guided program that begins at 10am and 1pm. We suggest you arrive at least 15 minutes before your chosen program start time. Accompanying the Independence Hall Experience, our costumed historical interpreters will present stories of ordinary people who lived in Boston during the time when tensions between the colonists and the British came to a breaking point.
If you happen to miss the 10am or 1pm start times, you may explore the American Village campus on your own, visit the National Veterans Shrine, the President’s Oval Office, Concord Bridge and the Freedom Trail, or the Randall Museum. Stop in the Merchants’ Coffee House and enjoy a beverage, snack or lunch, and join the program at the next start time.
